The South
Sachamama, The Serpent
Direction of full sun. The abundance of the earth. This is where the journey around the Medicine Wheel begins.
In the South, you learn to shed your attachment to your personal past, the same way Mother Serpent, Sachamama, sheds her skin. She is vulnerable in the moment of shedding, just as you become vulnerable when you let old stories go. And when she emerges, she has even shed the skin of her eyes. She sees the world through new eyes.
This direction teaches you to put your feet on your mother's belly and feel how close the earth really is. It teaches you to see beauty in everything, to hold all life as sacred, and to trust the value of your own body and this physical life you are living. It teaches you to create sacred space wherever you are, with whatever you happen to have on hand.
The work of the South is to find the places in you that have not yet healed and are keeping you bound to the past. Through ceremony and ritual, with the earth's help, you begin healing those wounds while you build your mesa, your medicine bundle. This is also where you begin receiving rites in the tradition of the Q'ero, the elders of the Andes.
Rites of The South
Chumpi, the Bands of Power
Bands of living energy are woven into your luminous energy field for protection. They let in what serves you while keeping out what doesn't.
Ayni Karpay
A transmission of archetypal energies, one for each of the seven traditional chakras, transmitted by a trained, full Mesa-carrying shaman who has deeply nurtured their own archetypes. As you tend and grow these archetypes, they support your growth in return.
Hampe, The Mesa Rite
The rite that awakens your mesa as a true healing tool, connecting you to the ancestors. From here forward, your mesa becomes a living instrument you can use to help yourself and others.
Kawak, The Seer's Rite
The Kawak rite creates new neural and energetic pathways in your body, opening your ability to see with the eyes of the heart. This helps you perceive what's really happening beneath the surface, in yourself and in others.
If the South is calling you, it may be time to shed
something you have been carrying for a long time.
