The East

Apuchine and Kuntu - Condor and Eagle

The rising sun. The direction of the visionary.

The East is guided by Apuchine and Kuntu, the eagle and the condor. Eagle sees with keen eyes, holding a wide view while still able to notice the smallest detail. Condor helps you release what has already died, so it does not weigh you down. Together they carry you to the mountaintops, where the wisdom of the ancestors lives.

In the East, you begin to discover what you do not yet know that you do not know. You work with who you are becoming, throwing a grappling hook into the future to anchor yourself there, and pulling that future self into the present. You add the final stones to your mesa here, becoming a full mesa carrier, and you receive rites that connect you with the stars and affirm you as a co-creator of this world.

The work of the East is to become friends with death, so that you can be fully present in every moment of your life. You learn to change your world by changing your perceptions. Every year, the Q'ero elders gather by a lake on one of their holy mountains to dream the world they want into being. That is the highest work of the East.

Taitanchis Ranti
